The Section for the Single Market, Production and Consumption (INT) deals with a rich variety of policy areas related to industry, competition, services, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and social economy enterprises. It also debates and adopts opinions on research and innovation, consumer protection, emerging economic trends such as the collaborative economy, and Single Market policies in general.

On issues of particular importance to the Single Market, the Section holds public hearings to consult the broadest possible range of civil society organisations. Every year since 1999, it has also organised the flagship Committee event known as European Consumer Day.

The Section also has a Single Market Observatory (SMO), to monitor developments in the Single Market and propose ways of eliminating obstacles or making improvements. The Temporary Study Group on Social Economy Enterprises, which also falls within the Section's remit, coordinates the Committee's positions on this increasingly important economic sector.
