Greek Boho Luxury Stays at Agnandi Mare Mykonos

What do you get when you put two architects in charge of a charming Mykonos hotel with a fantastic view?

For years, architects Elena Sklika and her husband Kostas Poulidis planned and oversaw all of the renovations at Elena’s parents’ hotel, Agnandi Mare on Mykonos. Last year, they finally made the decision to leave Athens for the island, and run the hotel full-time. But once an architect always an architect, and they keep making improvements even when its hard for a guest to see what could possibly get better.

This year, they added a new reception and a kitchen, which now serves breakfast and light meals to their guests and all those many passersby who are stopped in their tracks by the view.

The hotel is the perfect mix of cozy familial atmosphere, privacy, and cosmopolitan luxury.  The accommodation consists of independent units, equipped with small kitchens, Nespresso machines, and large verandas overlooking Hora and the sea below. Some feature outdoor jacuzzis, and some have their own lush, private gardens. The two-bedroom residences are perfect for families and groups of friends.

For breakfast, you’ll be served a generous picnic basket full of treats (choose between a Greek or a continental feast) to enjoy on your veranda or anywhere around the premises. The pool area, with its splendid view of the sea and the ships coming in and out of the port, is an inviting choice. It is equally beautiful here in the morning and in the evening, when the lights of Hora twinkle below.

Naturally, with owners like Elena and Kostas, the architecture and interior design of the rooms are among the most impressive features of Agnandi Mare. Elena calls it “Greek chic” or “Greek boho”; it’s definitely different from regular boho, and undeniably cozier than your average luxury hotel.

The modern minimalism of the white walls and furniture is softened by the use of natural materials that connect the inside with the outside, such as stone, wood, and the pebbles incorporated into the floor – one of the couple’s favorite details. Pops of color here and there make the spaces feel bright and happy.

All nine independent residences feature free wifi, daily housekeeping service, and for those traveling with infants, baby chairs and cots are available upon request. Babysitting can also be arranged. The reception is open from 09.00 until 21.00, and the staff will gladly help you arrange car or motorbike rental, taxi transfer (the hotel is only 5 minutes from Hora and 10 minutes from the airport by car), and day trips.

One of the new additions, which is available on demand and which Elena and Kostas plan to make a regular occurrence, are yoga classes. It’s hard to imagine a better setting for it.
