Europol in action

One of Europol's key goals is to provide EU law enforcement authorities with 24/7 operational support. The support is delivered in mandated areas and also in cases crossing several criminal areas. Below are just a few of the operational activities that Europol has successfully supported.

  • Joint Action Days (JADs)

    Europol supports EU Member States in cross-border operations focusing on key crime hotspots and criminal networks across the European Union. The operations are carried out within the EMPACT framework.

    Law enforcement agencies from all over the globe join forces with airline, travel and credit card companies to combat fraudsters using fake or stolen credit card data to purchase plane tickets.

  • In Our Sites (IOS)

    The goal of IOS is to shut down websites selling counterfeit goods, such as luxury products and electronics. This is achieved through close cooperation from Europol’s Intellectual Property Crime Coordinated Coalition (IPC³), INTERPOL, the US National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Centre and law enforcement authorities from 27 EU Member States and third parties.

  • Operation OPSON

    Operation OPSON targets organised crime networks trading in fake and substandard food and drinks. The annual operation is coordinated by Europol and INTERPOL and supported by customs, police, national food regulatory bodies and partners from the private sector.
