Europol’s closest partners

The system of liaison officers at Europol ensures that the interests of law enforcement agencies in the EU Member States are represented in Europol’s headquarters.

Europol supports the law enforcement activities of the Member States by:

  • facilitating the exchange of information between the agency and Europol liaison officers;
  • providing operational analysis and support for operations in Member States;
  • providing expertise and technical support for investigations and operations carried out within the EU, under the supervision and the legal responsibility of the Member States;
  • generating strategic reports (such as threat assessments) and crime analyses on the basis of information and intelligence supplied by Member States or gathered from other sources.

Europol also helps harmonise investigative techniques across Member States. And it regularly organises awareness-raising events for EU law enforcement officers so as to enhance their knowledge of its services, and thus help their international cases.
